How this site was built
Last updated 31 July 2026
The one line that matters: there is no chatbot here, and you are never talking to an AI on this site. Every message you receive comes from another student or from a person running the site. AI was used as a tool while building it, and this page explains exactly where.
You are not talking to an AI
HUCSC Market has no chatbot, no AI assistant, no automated replies, and no AI-generated listings. When you reveal a seller’s contact details, you are contacting a real student. When you get an email saying somebody is interested in your book, a real student pressed that button. Nothing on this Site is an AI pretending to be a person.
Where AI was used
We would rather say this openly than have anyone wonder. AI tools were used in building this Site in the following ways:
- Writing code. An AI coding assistant helped write and review parts of the application. Every change was read, tested, and deployed by a human developer, who is responsible for it.
- Drafting written content. Some of the wording on this Site, including parts of these policy pages, was drafted with AI assistance and then edited and approved by a person before publication.
- Design exploration. AI was used to generate and compare visual directions during the design process. The final look was chosen by a person.
Where AI is not used
- No AI runs when you use the Site. Browsing, searching, signing in, posting, and revealing contacts are ordinary database operations. No request you make is sent to an AI service.
- No automated decisions about you. Nothing about your account, your listings, or your access is decided by an algorithm or an AI model. Moderation decisions, including taking down a listing or suspending an account, are made by a person reviewing the report.
- Your data is not used to train AI models. Listings, photos, messages, and account details are not sent to any AI provider and are not used as training data.
- No AI-written listings. Listings are written by the students selling the books.
Why we publish this
There is no law that requires a website to disclose that it was coded or drafted with AI assistance. The transparency rules that do exist, such as the European Union’s AI Act, apply to AI systems that people interact with, for example a chatbot that must tell you it is not human, or synthetic images and audio that must be labelled. This Site has neither, so those rules do not apply to it.
We publish this page anyway, for two reasons. Students deserve to know how something they are asked to trust with their email address was made. And if the Site ever does add a feature that uses AI while you are using it, this is the page that will say so, before it ships.
Accountability
AI assistance does not move responsibility anywhere. The students who run HUCSC Market are accountable for everything on it, including anything an AI tool helped produce. If something here is wrong, unclear, or broken, that is on us to fix.
